The video for The Cure’s “In Between Days” always makes me happy. Robert is starting to find his true self and express it to the world. The band, full of potential and hope, is shot against a pure 80s backdrop so sweet and gender-bending it would make any hipster hard.
Been leaning a little lo-fi* as of late, and although I’ve developed a sincere new appreciation and taste for it’s fun, scratchy and honest self-importance steeped in melancholy, the reality is = my true love has always been post-punk. I prefer my scratchy self-importance steeped in melancholy to have more challenging musical structures, lyrical themes, and a self-consciously art-based image, while retaining punk’s initial iconoclastic stance.
