Tired and wired we ruin too easy
sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave

“America is still viciously racist and as sexist as it can get away with, and that is why ultimately, as the boredom wore off and the deeper significance set in, last night’s debate was such a disturbing experience.”

Can you handle the truth? Then read this irreverent commentary about the absurd campaigns being run right now by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

We just got an awesome, exclusive live version of Brett Dennen’s “Ain’t No Reason” in the CC Video Vault.

Watch the lovely folk song right here!

Working your fingers bear to the bone,
Breaking your back, make you sell your soul.
Like a lung that’s filled with coal, suffocatin’ slow.

The wind blows wild and I may move,
The politicians lie and I am not fooled.
You don’t need no reason or a three piece suit to argue the truth.

The air on my skin and the world under my toes,
Slavery stitched into the fabric of my clothes,
Chaos and commotion wherever I go, love I try to follow.

It was 1996, all gang rap mashed up with Boys for Pele - in all the swell somehow I forgot how cool and fucking great this song is (more romantic than Wonderwall?). I close my eyes and remember how Jacob Dylan smelled like the future, the guitar = almost as beautiful as the pristine pop production and man, that place always WAS such a mess, sometimes I’d think I’d like to watch it burn.

So long ago, I don’t remember when
That’s when they say I lost my only friend
Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
As I listened through the cemetery trees

I seen the sun comin’ up at the funeral at dawn
The long broken arm of human law
Now it always seemed such a waste
She always had a pretty face
So I wondered how she hung around this place

Chorus:
Hey, come on try a little
Nothing is forever
Theres got to be something better than
In the middle
But me & cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight

She said its cold
It feels like independence day
And I cant break away from this parade
But theres got to be an opening
Somewhere here in front of me
Through this maze of ugliness and greed
And I seen the sun up ahead
At the county line bridge
Sayin all theres good and nothingness is dead
Well run until shes out of breath
She ran until theres nothin’ left
She hit the end-its just her window ledge

(chorus)

Well this place is old
It feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine, but the engine doesn’t turn
Well it smells of cheap wine & cigarettes
This place is always such a mess
Sometimes I think Id like to watch it burn
I’m so alone, and I feel just like somebody else
Man, I ain’t changed, but I know I ain’t the same
But somewhere here in between the city walls of dyin dreams
I think her death it must be killin’ me
